In support of the Global Citizen Center’s commitment to foster new behaviors and ensure community access and diversity of participation in the Green Economy, the Center is launching a job training and placement program called Global Citizen Careers. The launch of GCCareers is scheduled for January 2007. This program will educate college students on environmental and social justice issues as they relate to the operation of a small- to medium-sized business. In addition, the program will provide participants with job placement assistance, helping them to apply their newly acquired skills within the local Green economy. The program will be delivered in two phases. During the first phase, participants will complete 10-12 topical sessions, comprising a combination of lectures, seminars, experiential outings, and/or other educational meetings. During the second phase of the program, participants will be given the opportunity to deepen and apply their new skills and knowledge. They will be offered one of the following opportunities: guiding a local company through the San Francisco Green Business certification program, working with an advisor to develop a business plan for their own Green Business, or participating in a campus-based initiative to “Green” some aspect of their educational institution. Also during the second phase of the program, participants will be given assistance pursuing either full-time employment or additional training in an expanded Green career track. This assistance will include seminars from Green career counselors, presentations by successful Green Business leaders, and individual consultations with professors and mentors.
