An overarching aim of the Global Citizen Center is to translate greater individual and institutional awareness into more just and sustainable action. To the greatest extent possible, the Center will create these opportunities for action through its educational programs, community development activities, hands-on exhibits and workshops, and restaurant and retail offerings.
In addition, the Center, in its every aspect, will document and
publicly model the practices it encourages others to adopt. It will “be
the change” it wishes to see in the world. The Center will showcase the
best of what’s available now, from Green building design and
operations, to successful Green business practices, thereby dispelling
the myth that truly sustainable alternatives reside only in the future.
The expected outcomes and success indicators of this objective are to:
- Foster the adoption of Green building and business practices by
demonstrating their costs and benefits, and by sharing access to the
resources necessary to implement these practices, as indicated by
tracking Green building projects in the San Francisco Bay Area,
membership in the Department of Environment’s Green Business Program,
and new Bay Area membership in the Co-op America Green Business
Network; and
- Shift consumption patterns based on increased awareness of
product externalities and greater access to goods and services with
positive local impact, as indicated by sales trends for certain Green
retailers and Center’s network members.
