Sean Culman, AIA, is a collaborator trained as an architect with an emphasis on environmentally sustainable practices. He was one of San Francisco's early LEED Accredited Professionals and was the first San Francisco architect to be a Build-It-Green “Certified Green Building Professional.” His firm, Solutions, is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council. He has served as a board member for Friends of the Urban Forest and committees for ADPSR, AIA COTE, USGBC-NCC, New Voice of Business and SPUR.

Sean’s experience with non profits started through conversations with his father who was the managing director of a repertory theater for nearly four decades, and his mother who is the vice-president of a foundation.

Charrettes and integrated design are proving to be an effective process to achieve successful green projects. Sean has participated in over 15 charrettes, mostly for non profits, including a charrette for the Friends Center in Philadelphia that received the first Kresge planning grant. His recent projects include a Living Building Charrette for the Hard Bargain Farm Environmental Center outside of Washington, D.C., a 17-acre master plan for Lundberg Rice with Sim Van der Ryn, and an integrated design workshop for a PV system  pond for Far Niente Winery.

Sean synthesizes from a wide range of disciplines to initiate and innovate. He participates in conferences, workshops, and charrettes around the country to discover and promote the best environmental practices.
