What We Do

The Global Citizen Center believes that the transition to a Green Economy will require experiential education, greater institutional collaboration, and inspired individual action. To these ends, the Global Citizen Center has defined the following six objectives as its primary goals.

Taken together, these goals enable the Global Citizen Center to promote environmental sustainability and social justice in a uniquely comprehensive manner. The Center and its programs will be a microcosm of the emerging Green Economy, expanding public awareness of its products, practices, and solutions, then translating that awareness into corresponding action.

The Center will create and deliver programs that give people an educational “experience” of the current challenges to sustainability and social justice. These programs will also help to dispel misconceptions regarding the true costs, benefits, and availability of sustainable alternatives.

Create the Platform – a Model for the Future PDF Print E-mail
The Global Citizen Center is designing and developing a mixed-use facility that will house the organization, its programs, and the work of a mission-aligned mix of tenants and strategic allies. The facility, by virtue of its architectural design, its scale, and its mix of education, entertainment, and retail offerings, expects to attract high levels of public visitation. This will allow the Center to reach an audience broader than any of its tenants could reach individually, and to engage this expanded audience with its educational and action-oriented programs.

Expand the Network PDF Print E-mail

While the Center will be located in San Francisco, a number of its programs and organizations target change at a much broader level. The Center plans to foster the creation of an internationally connected network of similar projects, with each one acting as a local hub for the development of its corresponding regional economy. The Center will facilitate this process by documenting and sharing its own learning and best practices. Depending upon the success of the Center’s initial projects, there may be an opportunity to develop a professional services practice around this body of knowledge, enabling the GCC to act as a project consultant, developer, and/or joint venture partner on other similar efforts.
