The beginnings of this site can be found in the story of our family in Guatemala. For many generations, we have been weavers. In our town, San Juan Sacatepéquez, we have woven huipiles and decorations for cortes worn by local women. When Ofelia Pirir married Andrew Winters, who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in San Juan Sacatepéquez from 1988 through 1991, and moved to the United States, we became a family living in two countries. While this presented new challenges, it also gave us the opportunity to offer our work to a new audience. Ofelia sold weavings made by us and by other Guatemalan artisans at crafts fairs and now, with this web site, to a larger audience.
